Online Searches

The search engine with the best visual design. The user is presented with only one data field to enter data, but several prefer this format due to its simplicity. Also now displays STIL entries and remixes from Remix.Kwed.Org ! |
|
|
The first SID search engine on the web. A simple, intuitive interface with the option of performing more advanced searches. This search engine is often updated the quickest after new Updates. |

Per Bolmstedt's HVSC Search engine, with information like STIL entries also displayed. |
| The BIG SID Hunt | This is the only link on this page specifically designed for finding SIDs currently not available in HVSC. You basically send in requests of what long lost tunes you'd like to see ripped. Rippers will occasionally visit the page and attempt to rip tunes on the list. The request list usually shrinks by at least 15% per Update provided that no new entries are added. |

The Shark's Human HVSC Search |
The HVSC Team do not normally provide email help if you wish to search for a
SID within HVSC. However, The Shark is willing to help you locate that
long-lost SID tune in exchange for either a HVSC correction (which has to be
proven) or a correctly formatted new rip.
To help The Shark help you, you should provide him with as much information about the SID as possible. This includes sending him the actual C64 program (if available), describing the program/intro from where the tune is used, approximate year when you first heard the SID, etc. There are no guarantees that The Shark will be able to find the tune you seek. Furthermore, The Shark reserves the right to refuse your HVSC correction. Buyer beware. :) |
| The Demo Dungeon | What if you know the SID tune was from a demo, but you don't know which one it might be? Well, Stephan Schmid's excellent site is here to help. Simply locate the demo by the group who released the demo, and for each demo, there's a list of tunes what appeared in the demo (in order of appearance). You can also search the page for the demo name, too. |
| SID Intro and Demo Reference (not yet available) |
The HVSC Team are searching for a volunteer who would be willing to maintain a
list of famous group names and famous demo names for the purpose of referencing
the SIDs they used. For example, it is well known that ESI used several SIDs
from Ben Daglish. The proposed list would show something like the following:
ESI
/Daglish_Ben/Bulldog.sid
People familiar with the C64 scene will understand why such a list would be helpful. Intros were famous and used many times, thus often the music used on intros were more closely association with the actual intro compared to the original program that contained the music. FairLight's intro music from "Enlightenment: Druid II" is a good example. The information could be placed in the STIL, but it would not be a wise solution since several groups' intros and demos used the same music. Email The Shark if you are interested in maintaining this list and he'll provide you with further information. |

Tools For Offline Searching
|
|
| SIDBace | Vincent Voois' excellent search tool. Simply download it, generate the database file with your version of HVSC in, and you can now use it to search the HVSC while off-line, including search of STIL information. |
| SIDBrowser | A nice offline search engine for HVSC, which also displays pictures of the composers (courtesy of composers.c64.org) as well as being able to search quite quickly. |
| SidDB | Another nice enhancement for the SID collection on your harddisk. Available in JAVA or Visual Basic. |
